Entry Requirement:
There is no pre-requisites or specific entry requirement for this qualification. This course is available to all international students and Datum College requires that students are able to provide evidence that they:
- Have demonstrated an IELTS level at a score of at least 6.0 or equivalent or demonstration of successful completion of at least General English at Advanced level or English for Academic Purposes at Advanced level.
- Successfully meets the requirements and satisfies the criteria of Genuine Student Test.
- Must have sound digital literacy and access to working internet and access to working PC or laptop with a configuration suitable to meet study requirements. Please seek your trainer/assessor assistance in this regard.
- Have a suitable level of language, literacy and numeracy to complete course requirements with or without additional support that the CRICOS provider is able to provide.
- Have successfully completed Australian year 12 or equivalent.
- Are at least at age of 18 on the date of course commencement.
Please Note:
- All the students commencing this course are required to complete the LLN test on the orientation day to assist the Datum College to identify student’s needs for additional support during their study with the Datum College.
- It is highly recommended that student must have successfully completed ‘CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry’, prior commencing this course as this unit of competency is a pre-requisite to most of the units contained within the qualification.

• All five units from the electives listed in the qualification packaging rules
• Four units from the electives listed below, plus one unit selected from any current training package or accredited course as long as it contributes to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome, maintains the integrity of the AQF level of this qualification and does not duplicate the outcome of another unit used to achieve this qualification.

This course will be delivered face-to-face in a classroom-based setting, which also includes simulated work environment. The learners are also provided with an opportunity to have access to active building sites.

The duration for this program is 104 weeks including:
- 8 study periods of 11 weeks each (88 study weeks in total)
- 16 weeks of term break (which can also be used as re-assessment period)
Pathways:
Once students have successfully completed CPC30220 Certificate III in Carpentry, they can work as a Carpenter within the residential and/or commercial construction industry. The further study pathways available to students who undertake this qualification include:
- CPC40120 Certificate IV in Building and Construction
- CPC40320 Certificate IV in Building Project Support
- CPC50220 Diploma of Building and Construction (Building)
- CPC50320 Diploma of Building and Construction (Management)
- Higher Education programs with other education providers within the Building and Construction sector, subject to meeting entry requirements of the intended qualification.

Assessment
Assessment tasks will vary for each unit of competency, but some of these may be moved online. Some assessment tasks may also be delayed or deferred to a later date pending the situation with COVID-19. The trainers are required to communicate with students for unit specific information. The best way to do this is through Zoom or through email.
Support
All staff at Datum College will continue to work and will continue to provide the students with the support any individual may need. The student will be remained connected with each trainer/assessor through regular class participation to assist them continuing their studies. Datum College will also provide online academic and language support and student support staff are always here to help.
Purpose
The purpose of this program is to cover the essentials skills and knowledge required to commence your career as a qualified tradesman in the construction industry. Students develop specialist skills and knowledge to carry out carpentry tasks and processes interpretation, drafting, quantities take-off, estimating, scheduling, construction technology, occupational health and safety (OHS). Students also gain general skills in design, problem-solving, construction technology, project documentation and project administration, including quality assurance.
Description
This qualification provides a trade outcome in solid plastering for residential and commercial work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, solid plastering. Solid plasterers apply plaster, cement and other mixtures to walls to create smooth or decorative finishes to interior walls and to render to exterior walls.
Occupational titles may include:
• Solid Plasterer
• Renderer.
State and territory jurisdictions may have different licensing, legislative, regulatory or certification requirements. Relevant state and territory regulatory authorities should be consulted to confirm those requirements.
This qualification is suitable for an Australian apprenticeship pathway.
Completion of the general construction induction training program, specified in the Safe Work Australia model Code of Practice: Construction Work, is required by anyone carrying out construction work. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry meets this requirement
Learner Characteristics/ Target Group
The target market for this program includes learners with minimal or no knowledge of the construction industry and specifically to carpentry. The target market also includes those learners willing to carry out carpentry tasks in a residential, industrial or commercial building or developing specialist skills and knowledge to run a small-to-medium construction business, including:
- quantity surveying
- planning and scheduling of labour and materials
- selecting contractors
- managing project risk and quality
- managing workplace safety
- applying business codes and standards
- structural principles for residential and commercial constructions
- interpretation of plans and specifications
- small business finance.
The amount of training required by a learner to achieve a qualification/unit depends on:
- The starting point of the learner.
- Their learning skills.
- The mode of delivery by Datum College.
- The breadth and complexity of the skills and knowledge to be acquired.
If the learner has a significant amount of relevant prior experience, it may be that the learner can proceed directly to the assessment process (RPL) for some units, so the amount of training will be reduced.
Similarly, if the learner has already achieved some of the units of competency required to successfully complete this qualification at Datum College, only a proportion of the qualification will need to be delivered and the amount of training will be reduced.
Alternatively, if the learner is facing challenges, such as the need for substantial preparation, learning support, reasonable adjustments and/or personal coaching the amount of training will need to be increased to meet their needs.
